New Cabs oh happy days

A quick post as I have had to go out and get a " proper " job !!!!!

The less said about that the better as it is not about beads ...

Anyway last Sunday I made Cabochon's with Manda's Tut .

So here is my first attempt. I am not keen on using their Mandrel so I am doing it freehand using a screw and nut mandrel from Little Castle Designs , but that is just what I prefer . Everybody is different so if you can, try both types and see what works for you.

It's been a while

But I thought I would show you what I have been making with my beads that I have made over the past few months. I know it has been a long while since I last showed you jewellery pieces but I have made loads so I shall be putting them slowly onto my Etsy site. I feel so chuffed that I have got to the stage that I am making my own beads to go with my own jewellery designs.

I tried to do some full round beads that gave the same effect but it did not work and I have no idea on what to do next regarding these beads. As shown on the right hand side of the photo below. So I was a bit disappointed this morning regarding them, but the bumpy ones I want to lick them all and hide them away .

Oh yes I did . Read this twice I nearly wet myself indeed I finally bought myself the storming tutorial byAmy Kinsch . I then had to wait until hubby went to bed this afternoon ( he's working nights until Jan 2012 ) before I could escape into the shed & escape I did. Just doing the first section for storming got me jumping up and down in my seat. Bursting with OMG OMG OMG and listening to Radio 2 . So as I did not have all the glass she stated I made do with what I had and played . Now all I have to do is wait until the morning.

So a sacrifice of the son again has been made to the kiln fairies . I hope they like smelly 13yr olds with attitude . Before I can see if this storming has worked, even if just one bead and one dot works I will be happy .. Pics to follow if it works.

These were made by the wood man whose name I shall edit in later that was in Buxton at the weekend. I could have gone for Silly Moo but felt the wording would be too much. These are to be on my stall at the next market , fair that is coming up at the end of November .

Yesterdays Efforts

After my last posting and after much thinking about handmade via lampwork and the fact people say " if you cannot beat them , join them " . I have come upon a decision that it is easy to join the " mass produced " market and I am sure I will increase my sales if I do so. But I have never been one that takes the easy route more mountains over molehills , and taking the long road girl am I . Or just plain stubborn .

Anyway I went into the shed and more handmade products were made . Yes it is slow and yes it is hardwork for little products . However each and every bead I made yesterday was handmade by me and each one will be slightly different and are unique.

And you know what I loved every single minute of making these babies ...

The story continues and it is a bug bare with all people who make there own products verses people who sell mass produced products on handmade craft fairs !!!!

So I shall keep this short and sweet. People come on , if it says handmade or craft then that means no mass produced items should be sold at these events . It is not fair on those who slave blood, sweat and tears over making there products . We cannot even compete price wise with mass produced products let alone knock out the same item out ten a penny.... It also gives these events a bad name and people who want handmade or craft will not come back to future events.

Mass produced stalls should stay for normal / standard markets NOT CRAFT OR HANDMADE EVENTS. Everybody has to make money and put food on the table but mass produced sellers are giving us handmade artists a bad name believe it or not buy selling cheap mass produced items that we cannot compete with.

Also for those who buy mass produced at Craft / Handmade Fairs . I ask WHY ????

Make a stand people .....

Help those stalls that promote there products are handmade. If you are gonna buy , buy from them that's what these events are meant to promote . It sends a message to the hosts of the event and those that sell mass produced.

Know that each item is made with love and care , that time and effort has gone into each product made.

That the best quality materials has been sourced and most of all that a large majority of us give excellent customer service because it is products we have made not just bought in large bulk.

This is why we lose artists , crafters , small independant shops because mass produced is bought on price not quality ......

I know not everybody has a lot of money but not all handmade is expensive as you find most of us are under cutting ourselves just so that we can sell an item or too .. We never add on our time for making the product ( labour ) or pay ourselves an hourly rate when we do fairs that tends to be for free . So next time you go to an event that says Handmade or Craft , take note of the stalls that actually are all handmade rather than the stalls that just buy in stuff to sell. It may be cheap but you really can tell the difference in the quality ....

Yeah some play time

Life sometimes really does get in the way. When you are married and have a family , you have a house to keep , meals to cook , washing to do . And that's even before you start your job or run your business. The lists we make , notes that are stuck around the house to be ignored ... No wonder when we want to do stuff for us it is most of the time way way way down on our list of things to do.

But Saturday came and I spent the day in the shed just playing.

Really I wanted to try this Zephyr Clear Glass by Double Helix and at £8.50 for 1/4 Ilb you really do not get much for your money . But it does what it says noscum, little bubbles and a joy to work with. I loved it .

So starting below I played with Tag Fire Lotus

Then Kalipso calling

These were Kalipso and then melted in with clear. I wanted to do bumpy beads but it was not working for me saturday , so melted away and gave a few sacrifices to the kiln fairies . They are all organic with a few bumps and lumps but I love emmmmm . Who needs mass produced when you can have one offs that people adore making .

These are colbat blue with multi dark frit . Must say I am rather impressed with this blue ..

I am at Buxton Farmers market on thursday 3rd november 9.15am til 2pm .

It started at 9am with fresh apple sauce for the pork roast I was making that day. Then a double batch of Jam Tarts some Mince Pies for the freezer. A hot and spicy Tom Soup for lunch, a spicy apple Tart Tatan for desert after the roast. A batch of Lemon Curd and Peanut Butter Truffles. I think that was it for Sunday . No time for beading this weekend !!!

First Buxton Farmers Market & Home Sweet Home

This was my first Farmers Market at Buxton Pavillion & finally a display I was happy with .

Some people have stunning tables and they all match. Me ! As you can see, I am a mix and match sort of girl. Not that you can tell of course. My banner decided not to play so had to put up the back up one on the day. I have to get clamps I think for next time. It is always a learning experience every event changes to be made , lists to be created .

The weather had changed that day and it was the first day for the central heating & this shown below.

I think not , I just went into the shed earlier that's all.

I have been playing with Kalipso again. Back to the double helix glass, just like the handbags I like , both expensive and once you use one you cannot go back to the cheaper type......

Pictures will follow in the next few days , as I have been away from the torch for a while I need to get back into the swing of it again. Although it is amazing how it tends to lighten my mood when I have melted something . That is as long as I can make at least one decent basic bead.
Now the hubby's accounts are nearly done just the bits that need going over I will have at least a week before my next farmers market . I still need to work on my displays , if the look pants that's because they are. Either too cluttered or too bare I cannot seem to get the balance yet. So more work to be done on that front this week too .

I spent a few hours in the shed yesterday. After lacking with the mojo I have begun to follow this blog for some colour mojo. Here's the link http://color-collective.blogspot.com/ have a look .

So here are the colours I took and here is the beads I produced . I decided to lightly etch them to give that matt effect too.

I then tried my new button tool so these are my first ever attempt at buttons. need some work but I was pleased with the handmade look . Better than mass produced anyday.

I have a drawer that has lots and lots of lovely beads that other bead makers have made over the past two years I have been buying them .. I bought them with the intention of making them into jewellery , this was before I started making my own beads. Well I never did get round to parting with alot of the beads because I fell in love time and time again with each and every one of them.

However now I am take the bull by the horns and I am starting to make them up as why keep such stunning beads in a drawer. They should be worn and loved just like I love my beads.

Having the whole day to myself should have inspired me in the beading department .. I say the word SHOULD have . Well no such luck . In fact I have that much stuff swimming in my head at the moment that not even the basic doughnut bead could be performed today. It just would not go . So I am frustrated left , right and centre and even that is frustrating me ......

I have glass , glass , glass . I have a tidy and very organized studio but could I make a single decent bead . Nope all Pants all for the frugal jar.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the couple of brandy and cokes I had last night or the fact I had the whole day to myself ????

Thinking of that I am glad in a way I have a son because I would always be making things for my child if it had been a girl .

It was a pressie for the hubby for his 40th ...Yes he wanted to go , we had not been for years so I took the hint and got some tickets.

This is one of the many reasons why I do not miss living in Shetland. For starters it did not cost the earth just to get off the island. We have the choice to go to an event if we want ... And boy did we.

A hat that actually suits .. Did I buy .... Nope silly girl I did not.

A full day out really enjoyed spending the day with the old fossil , just him and me all day. It was nice doing something for the adults . Super organised event and gets better and better I expect every year ...

First Craft Fair As One Silly MOO and in ENGLAND

One Silly Moo's first table in England .

So the event was at Stockports Handmade Market .. Was I nervous ummmm YES of course but at least I knew what to do. Shetland Fairs gave me the experience of what to expect , Good & Bad ...... So I was not expecting to make many sales it was more getting myself out there !!!!!!

I really enjoyed the day , the market will expand each month with promotion and word of mouth that it is open. But I have to say I took a book expecting to be reading it and I did not even make a full page . I may not have had mind blowing sales but the traffic and comments were positive . So as far as I am concerned a ruddy good start ........... And a massive thank you to a friend and her daughter who brought me a hot cup of tea and food supplies ........

So ideas for September Fair is now leaflets, Banner and Display oh and of course stock that would help.

Kicking and Screaming

All of you who know me will know I really do not like social networking sites ( face book , twitter etc ) .

Well I have joined after alot of moaning and being told off by my dear friend in Shetland and her giving me the what I have to do and what I already have done wrong when setting up this Facebook thing.

What I wanted it for was to get this ONE SILLY MOO out there , beads, jewellery the lot.

What I did wrong was set up a personal page first . Mistake number 1.

Mistake number 2 - Link yahoo to Face book ( did not read or just clicked buttons ) hence friend from Shetland telling me off ( face slap down the phone ) .

So after alot of kicking, screaming, deleting face book , starting it back up again, deleting again, starting back up again. Wiping off my etsy logo / shop as I have no idea what I am doing with this Face book thing at all.

Is it me or is Face book really pants to use !!!! See slagging it off already .......... Some things will be harder too break.

So after alot of moaning shall I say .

I hopefully am on Face book as ONE SILLY MOO shown here.

Whilst the sun is shining

I have said before that sets are not my thing. Not that I will not be able to do a set the same in time , no that's not the problem here. Far from it . I do 2 or maybe 3 beads the same , then get bored and something else pops into my head. I enjoyed my full 8 hours in the pink room yesterday, free form beading or " the organic look" . Whatever you choose to call those days where you just put colours together to see if they work. Beads are not level or perfect , they are free hand . No rollers or bead presses to help get that " perfect " look.

No the days I enjoy the best are the free form days, where anything goes !!!

Shape , style , colour ............ Anything goes .... ...

The Humble Bumble Bee Look

I had not put these colours out when I started this morning, knowing I only had a few hours to get some beading in until the sun hit the shed full on and I melted, I had already put colours out ready to start. Having made only one bead in the colours I had chosen. I had a Eureka moment due to the sunshine and seeing the lovely Humble Bumble Bee buzzing about in our garden. I changed colours and bead these beads below. And I know these wonderful bees do not have Polkas , so stringer control will be next on my hit list to try .

if people know me then they will know I do not do face book or twitter . Years and years people have tried to get me to join . But I have found today more and more people are setting up facebook shops. So the question is are you doing it and is it worth it.

Do I really have to be dragged into this social networking kicking and screaming and can I keep it all professional do I have to have the social side ( personnal ) of it as well ...........

A change in direction

I would take or I will take a better picture of my display stand when I have put everything on it and I have a back drop that does not show dogs asleep, tesco bags ready to go to charity, clean washing or the ironing board in the back drop.I have had to crop them all out for now. Instead you have 2 sections just showing the new cards I have had made.

After cleaning my shed with soap and water , yes full clean although not the floor . I decided for the couple hours I had spare yesterday that I would play with some double helix. After some attempts at using the lentil press that was deciding it did not want to play or I did not want to play . I decided just to go with the flow. Put some colours together with white and ivory and silver and see what came out . I now have some silver wire for my next attempts at these types of focal beads . I rather like the organic look .

These are tester beads below that I tried out the other night. My first attempt at trying out a raised flower type focal. For my first go I was very excited with the results and will be trying this again.

Some more spacer or plain type doughnut beads , some have been left glossy others have been etched .

So he went for the spring birds back to Shetland . How do I feel about it ? I do not know , mixed feelings . He likes it and has a form of connection with the place . I do not simple as that . Or is it !

I mixed a few colours up today , lacking in mojo still I want ideas to come flooding in . Or should I just let go and play I wonder . If it works it just works , if it does not then it can go into a large jar I have for my " not wanted / not good enough beads "

On a positive note , my son has found that he likes skateboards . I was into skateboarding as a kid , so I think I was more excited at seeing all the skateboards than he was...... I want one at I want one now , my son on the other hand thinks I am too old now and that I should act my age ... As if ...

A bit windy

I have been itching to go into the shed , after a girly day Sunday by going to the cinema to watch a girly move . And my mother & her Partner coming for tea the Saturday. I knew I had Bank Holiday Monday to go into the shed. I did and I knew I should not have right from the first bead. Nothing came out as I want or woud have like and I knew I should have packed it in then and there for the day. I did not . I refused !!! And these are my results from that day. I blame it on the wind , it may be sunny but boy is it not half cold in that wind.

So heres what I did yesterday

After the excitement of the Royal Wedding I went into the shed , I finished off another pendant for the 93 yr old lady to go with the other necklace .

I then found myself making these type of beads below. The ones with the organic middle of silver and ivory stringer melted into the middle. I do not make these as I know alot of other lampworkers do , but I must admit I enjoyed every minute of making these and I liked what came out of the kiln the next morning . I used Lauscha Glass , Violet , A blue one & Cocco coloured. I found it a bit shocky and it is expensive glass but the results just show the next day that it is all worth it.

I then continued to practise with Double Helix and encasing . Mixed results I feel as I have to get used to using a BIG GIRLS TORCH so have to get the setting just right so that I can get the best out of DH Glass . But I will just have to keep going back to it. Encasing I love doing it I really do.

Now the best one of the night and this was the last bead I made was the encased purple polka on the right. If the clear encasing would have gone over the blue just that little bit more it would have been 99% perfect . I am so proud of this bead anyway.

Look at my attempt 12months ago on the left , the yellow one in the middle. It was heated too much , I used too much yellow in the middle , my spots were wrong . Not good at all but yesterday I tried again and got that out of the kiln this morning ................. A Big Smile on my face all day as well because of that little bead..... It is now going up in my pink shed..

The Royal wedding of course . I did it was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning. I cam downstairs put the TV on and then made a cup of tea. The telly is still on. They are man and wife and saying prays as I write this to you now.

A dream that a middle class family has made it into the Royal Family.

The Bride looked stunning simple 1950's ( Grace Kelly ) stunning.

The Groom - nervous and so he should be .

The Best Man - Even more nervous ( Speech later that's maybe why )

The Family's - Proud and Proud ..

And best of all the weather even behaved itself..... Oh to be British and Proud on this day. Right off to watch the rest ..

It does not matter if I am happy with the end result all the time. The point is that I enjoy the process. Melting the glass, turning that torch on . Making the bead .

It is a time where I can either think of nothing at all or have all sorts running through my head. It is only myself in that shed making and melting away .

Practice will start showing results of that perfect bead that may or may not ever happen.

Its all part of the process ..... That really matters .......

I have found something that can calm me inside and out .

Busy day part 2

So all day yesterday and these are what I have.

Am I pleased with the results , no not really ...

Why but why

Because I am the one that made them , that's why .....

I can see the bits where I could have done better or the colours do not go or it needed more

glass , the list would go on and on and on ..

It is true , we are way to critical of our own work . I do think it might get better in the future but I see it a long road ahead. Back to the shed again today to see what delights enter my head today . Ironing can be done another day ....... Oh and hubby & son was very happy last night the BLUES beat the REDS .

Ok time to take this beading seriously !!

I went into the shed yesterday for a few hours as a friend wanted some purples to choose from . That was my first job to tick off the list.

Then as I still have not got Lime Green or Acid Yellow out of my system yet I had to make Balls for earrings .

Then it was time to play with some other colours ( yeah !!!!!!!!! )

Hot days make me bead

It does really make me want to bead. Sod cleaning the house . I want to be in that shed beading , getting even hotter with the torch !!!!

Above are some large ribbed beads that did not turn out so well, I have a good excuse . The gas was running and then ran out.

These are acid yellow and lime green , with a mixture of frit , silver foil and twists for texture .
I loved these colours so much I made myself this below.

P.S . Hubby has put fairy lights on he outside of The Beadoir , It is now complete . Just a shame I did not buy pink .

Ok, these below are what I made yesterday with Kaz's lesson and her frit. I put this together. Rather pleased with these I must say ......

I also had yesterdays session using 2 oxys , soooooooooo much better and quicker just a bit noisy in the shed now . Oh well will have to turn up the radio more .

Then as I am not doing so well at the flowers , I am finding I like putting the twists in to mix the colours and these are how they look , much better in person camera pics are not so good today.

Again trying to use colour and PPP the flowers , it might happen one day. I must say though doing encased flowers is really really hard then trying to encase it without the flower bleeding and all the layers you put in OMG is all I can say .

A quickie

I have been doing beads HONEST !!!! I went on a much needed next stage course with Kaz last weekend both Saturday and Sunday. The husband and son I hear you say , well they went to Barcelona to watch them play . This was our son's Xmas pressie from us so Dad had to go with him as he is only 12 .

And I had the house to myself all weekend so I went on Kaz's course. I need not say anything more about the Master and her teaching skills. I learnt so much and have put some of it into practise today. As soon as I recharge my camera I will get around to posting my efforts.

On a lighter note we have a pair of Mallards in the pond. 4 hours they have been in their and Bella has only just noticed we have movement on the pond. Pics will follow when I go into the office next week it shall be first on my list of things to do .

Just to say I have been updating www.60degreesnorth.com with bits and pieces of my work. This website will be going through a change when I am able to change the domain name in August . I am still unsure how I want it to look so plenty of extra homework for me this year, researching what I would like stylewise etc.

I am having problem with sizing of my photos on the website. I upload bigger images than I am supposed to. On my mac it says crop so I crop. I do not look at what size I am making it. ( my eyes are glazing over just talking about this. ) I know my 12 year old would do a better job than what I am doing of it at the moment !!.

Now that I have been away for a lovely weekend at my cousin's . ( It only took her 17yrs to get just us two out dancing again !!) I cannot remember that last time I came in at 4am ( sober ) getting out of the taxi hearing the morning chorus ( bird's singing ) as I am just going to bed . I was awake again at 9am and on my way back home around eleven . Ready to drop when I got back home.

It was lovely us spending time together something I hope will continue alot more often anyway.

I can now concentrate on melting glass and after a much needed kick up the rear by you lovely lot I will begin looking towards spring .

On a lighter note my younger sister ( 11yrs younger ) was out where my cousin and I were. All I wanted to do was pull her belt , sorry I mean skirt down and tell her it was past her bedtime now . But she is an adult as I keep saying to everyone I meet , but to me she will always be Vicki - Bits.........

Lost my mojo

I have lost it somewhere, I look at all the beads other people are doing and it is getting me down at the moment. Not their standard of work as I know that comes with practice and time. No it is the fact they think all these beautiful designs. That is what is getting me down, the fact I do not think my beads are beautiful and I never think of all these other wonderful designs that make up their wonderful beads.

This is a rough attempt at using double helix glass. This is what I tried after I had my lesson at Kaz's. I overdid the glass , it is too big for the large lentil so I left it freehand. As it is that big I have put it onto a chunky chain so that it can hold the bead better. Not something I am used to but I am sure it will grow on me.

The other is a heart I made I have made up into a heart necklace.

Two more pieces of jewellery all made up ready to go.

I am so proud of this necklace . It is nothing special and is not fancy at all. Even the double helix colour has not come out that great I have better . Its just I have silver in this my encasing for this lentil is spot on for me . Up close and personal you can see the colours of the helix glass .

So I have kept this one just for me .

Well I have got a party to do in a few weeks, so I really get my arse in order.

Bags have arrived Plastic, Velvet or a few with handles . Tissue paper is next on the list. Cards are done , so it is just a case of making the endless amount of beads I have up into stunning pieces of jewellery that people would want to wear. !! You see that's the thing what I like and what I would wear is different say to what my cousin likes and what she would wear . I would say even in clothes what she likes and what I like are opposite in every sense of the word. However she is not afraid in what she wears , very feminine and very beautiful . The same as my sister very feminine and very beautiful . That goes with their style of jewellery . Light and feminine . Where as I like simple but chunky mamma's .

In this women are similar but would you ever get 2 friends exactly the same !!!

It's awful I know I know so is my grammer . I must improve . However I have things to do first.... like show you the hearts I made yesterday. I started at 9am and finished at around 2.30 that afternoon. It is not easy when making these and now I am finding I am making less beads the more I progress I am making.

On the brain

The first 3 sets of beads are what I made last night. In the dark , fairy lights on disco music going. Only thing was I only managed a few hours as I was knackered from that dreaded thing called CLEANING. Yes I cleaned the house from top to bottom yesterday. Did I enjoy it ? Errr NO ! I cannot say that I did. It seems to give me too much time to think about things that I tend to not want to think about.

So Friday I was in the Beadoir from 9am until around end of school time 3 ish I think. I decided I wanted to try flowers again and give it a bit more welly and have a go. These are the results , the only trouble is I have a nice round bead with nice ends at the start then after I have melted in the flowers , the shape goes out a bit. So my ends are not so nice and the shape has gone a bit. Help Please !!!!!!!! Or is it a case of more PPPP and one day I might get there.

I also was thinking ( Whilst Cleaning ) this is why I hate cleaning . That when do Newbie beads stop looking like newbie beads. Or do we always look at our beads and see newbie beads ?

I cannot stay out of my Beadoir, I just can't. I did some paperwork for the hubby this morning, went and walked the girls , got tea and even got it ready including laying the table !!!! . From 1pm onwards I was in The Beadoir beading away , well practicing . i hope they turn out ok. I made 2 more hearts to keep on practicing maybe one day it will pay off. Plain again but I want the technique right first. Same with the bead rollers the beads are just plain but I need to get used to this new technique , it is not the same as doing a doughnut shape also you are not reliant on freehand gravity and guessing the right size for each bead. So is that a good thing or not having a bead roller. I have no idea yet . I will just have to remember to do doughnut beads to not lose the ability to do things without a tool to help.

So we shall see when I get them out from Pinkie tomorrow !!!!!!

I said I would practice

And I did . 7 hrs yesterday , I was only going to stay in there a few hours .......

I started off by practicing hearts and slowly I think I might be getting the hang of it . I am still not happy with the middle bit where the hole is but I shall have a go at putting less glass next time and see if that helps.

Then I had a much welcomed and needed surprise. My bead rollers came . No hoping about I just got out the Double Helix and Clear Glass and started . No messing I wanted to get my hands on these suckers ...

Encasing will take alot of practice to get perfect it is like starting from scratch again knowing how much glass to put on, getting it even all the way round . Covering the holes at each end. Hard to do when the glass is clear. However I do not seem to mind doing this at all.

I am looking forward to the longer light in the evening and warmer weather so I am able to have those double doors open whilst beading happily during those summer evenings. This year I want to enjoy the warmth of the sun and actually not be wearing 3 layers of clothing in June or July .

I have even started thinking about the Flame Off . About what I would like to get , what I want to see knowing I am there for 2 days means I can take my time and enjoy everything. It will be good to meet people in person as well. Something for the New Year. Meet People !!!!! And try not to be afraid .....

Enough waffle . I need to pee , its raining here and I am waiting for the coalman to arrive .xx

So in my new shed I have been working on these. The first day was ever so OMG OMG OMG . I had room everything was too hand, nothing moves, its warm ( after the heater has been on for a while) and I feel like I am in heaven.

This was yesterdays work again I was working with Striped Pink , and gun metal and black. So much for colour !! I just love it . My hearts did not turn out how I would like them. Its the middle and the end I seem to have problems with. However I shall continue having a go at them at least one a week, you never know it might click one day.

I then had a try around 5 ish last with Mermaid and Goldstone Ribbon. Not sure on how to use the ribbon I either encased it and pulled it into a stringer or placed it on the bead and encased quickly then melted. I loved how they have turned out on my first attempt. Not perfect but the colours together are stunning.

More news some beads I made and put into a bracelet and earrings for someone in New Zealand have arrived and the feedback was positive and gratifying . Plus a party in a few weeks so I better start making some of these beads into pieces of Jewellery otherwise they will have nothing to look at . No pressure then !!!!

These are what I produced Monday , my first day in my new room . I tried new things some for the first time . So I can see my mistakes and try and correct them for the next time I have a go. I have been trying encasing and some Double Helix Glass. The more I practice in theory , the better I should get. I also want to use plenty of colour this year. something that my son is not afraid to use or wear. We shall see !!

I then found Striped Pink and have fallen in love with this glass. I love it ! I did 2 focals but one cracked as I fought to get the bugger off the mandrel.

I have also been trying to do Twisties , but practice practice practice might get me somewhere.

I thought I really had a good day beading yesterday, but the day has started off as it means to go on I think. I forgot something major again. My best bead cracked and would not come off the mandrel and my dogs have decided to chase everything in sight , even the postman did not get away from them this morning. They are not evil doggies just run up wanting a stroke but we all know postmen are very cautious and they have there good reasons as to why .

So here are a few that I managed to get off the mandrels

Le Beadoir

I thought I would post this now before I clutter it all up !!. There are still some bits to put in ( Glitter Ball, Pink Lights , Electric ) However this is the finished product that my husband has done over Christmas.

I went for a day at Kaz's when I came home The Husband and The Son had spent that day in the freezing cold putting up The Beadoir as it is to be known as, ( Hubby thought of it ) .

He then painted it white with Metallic Pink on the far wall . As he is a Floor Layer he then got some Pink Rubber Flooring of which there was enough to go on the work surface that he built . As he said he is beginning to be a dab hand at this worktop building as he built our large cabin / office in the garden with all the work surface inside.

A secondhand mirror and tile was bought ( bargins ) the rest was what we had around the house. I have some solar fairy lights for outside in the summer . Excited is not the wording. Screaming , jumping up and down. To say that he has made the inside look like I had imagined inside my head is an understatement.

As you can see I will have one side for the Jewellery making side and the other for the Lampworking.
It is a good starting point and we can take it from there.

I am not a Pink Person but my kiln is Pink so I decided to go overboard and take it from there. I also saw a well known celeb with a Pink office but painted all over. When I saw it I thought that's what I want. But I changed it to what suited that space.

For my Husband who has done this just for me xxx . I LOVE YOU xxxxxx

New Years List

5. No more shoes !!!!!!! ( Doubt I will stick to this one )
6. Spend Less, Budget more.
7. Exercise more ( Dogs more walkies no gym !!! )
8. Continue to organize household & work so it works !!!!!!!!! Stick to the routine , Don't get sidetracked
9. Practice and experiment with Lampworking ( don't always play safe )
10. Buy more Black clothes. (Forget no 6 on list )
11. Clean house alot more ( Move further down list )

I will add more to this naff list when mind block decides to lift. ( Older age has set in already )

Kalipso Calling

After heating the snot out of this glass last summer. I decided to wait until we had moved back to Manchester and getting someone who knew what they were doing with Double Helix glass to show me how to use it properly. Kaz from Cheeky Cherub showed me during Christmas week what to do along with Encasing. YES oh YES encasing is hard and lots of practice will be needed to get it spot on.

Below are my attempts at encasing and using Kalipso Double Helix Glass.

Yeah to the Kalipso . Hit and Miss with the encasing. Button holes I did not manage all the time, needs work and the encasing with he clear I need to judge way way way better than I did. But these were my first go on my own torch. I have yet to see what I did at Kaz's !!!!!

However I was over the moon with these babies.

I could not show these before Christmas as they were presents for the mothers. These are The Husbands photos put onto canvas . The Puffin was for his mother and The Dog Otter was for mine. I was so over the moon at them I wanted to keep them for myself !!!

Last year Tilley had a massive Tumor that needed her to have her spline out as that is where it was attached. She has been ill again and today we found out they think it is back. So it is a case of more tests and an endless pocket of cash ( CC ).

One thing I am certain of is that if there is an hint of pain , I will not be putting her through it just for our families benefit . I love my baby and sometimes that might mean letting them go . So fingers crossed its not as bad as they fear.

Yes that's right I make some up for myself they sell and then I get more requests for them. So whilst people are asking for them I am gonna make them. They do take a while as all the beads are handmade , no mass produced here !

This is my attempt at just being freestyle. I was making a heart but I liked the way this glass was melting and the shape it was forming into. So I popped it into the kiln. Not to every one's fancy , but hey why not try something different . I did .

This heart below then took me an hour to make , please does this time reduce when making hearts? Do we get any quicker !!!! Purple Silver Blacky type glass I think. It had no label ! Bad Me .

Le Tardis is on its way

So I have finally ordered the shed I will be moving my lampworking and jewellery stuff into . After Xmas of course !!!

I am moving out of the box room. Although it is nice and warm I am easily distracted and I do not really have enough space . I cannot believe I said that but also the cats are giving me a heart attack every time they decide they want to jump up when the torch is on. I mean WHY WHY do they do it. DO they want burnt fur I mean honestly really their timing is just pants . Then they just look at me from the other side of the torch glowing with their smiles , yes you heard right they are smiling because it is not enough that they have central heating back, the want it hotter by sitting just far enough away from the tip of a burning torch.

So they are the reasons why I want to create my very own space !!!!! Not a boring space no I am not doing that oh no . I am gonna go full hog and decorate " Le Tardis "" . Watch this space !!!! You might however be waiting a while I need the hubby to do it all .

I took a chance on these Ivory and Gun Metal spots. I have made the beads bigger as well and they turned out. A mega plus for me as I am in the spare room at the moment with only other houses and concrete to look at. .

As I like the glass multi colour the other day and how it turned out. I must have used it right for once and not heated the snot out of it . I saw the colour effects really show in these beads below. These babys will make some good xmas presents.

Clear frit came today so I shall have some fun with that soon as well as Pastel Green Copper Red & Green Rosato . I need some Autumn or Winter colours to play with now.

A bug up my arse

I have not posted a thing for a while , however I have been rather busy. Whilst moving back to SUNNY OLD MANCHESTER for a number of reasons . I am determined to change a few things so we have not just come back to the same old routine and install some things that has changed us for the better since living in the Shetland Islands.

Week one - We unpacked the whole house in a week. Plus changed a few rooms regarding furniture and what these rooms will be used for. Also we had family stay the weekend ( yeah ).

Week two - Office has been sorted and I am now going through all paperwork and making folders that I understand again. Something that has not been done in a long while and needed a good old tackle. A bit like an overgrown garden that's what I needed to do with the office. Plus that has had a good old change as well.

On a personal note I am up early, showered and have MAKE UP on most days. So I no longer smell or have that dragged through a hedge backwards look anymore. Positives moves in these two weeks although some habits are alot harder to break. I have seen a pair of shoes that are screaming at me . They however have not got my size ! ( Bugger ) . I was very good to cover my ears whilst these shoes were screaming at me , I can still hear them now.

As for bead making I had a session last night and a new Le Tardis is shortly on the horizon . Also a jewellery party in Oxford and more planned for next year. So busy busy busy.

Yesterday's weather has put us behind by a days travel. Both Northlinks are in Aberdeen and nothing is in Lerwick so we are delayed until Wednesday evening which is the longer ferry . Am I happy uhhhh no not really but the friend is showing signs of labour , however I expect it will not pop out before we go.

Nearly There

So we had our turn at cards night & leaving do in one go on the 2nd oct before Hubby had to go away again. If we had enough room we would have invited alot more people that we wanted to but there is only so many we could get round the card table. These are the oldies without these people around the table I do not think I would have managed these past few months. They have looked after me & Jack in ways that I will never be able to repay whilst the husband has been back on mainland England . I can never say Thank You enough especially to the Marshalls those months where I did not even want to get out of bed let alone feed myself . Dr Marshall & Mrs Marshall saw me at my very worst and continued to give me their support . Made sure that my son and myself were ok everyday . I love them loads.

A very good night had by all.

So the loft got emptied today. And there was me thinking I nearly had everything packed ready, well nearly everything. I have packed up my glass ( a tear in my eye ). I am beginning to feel upset, not so much at leaving this house that has never become my home but the friends we have made and the one friend who is due her baby today , it is showing no signs of coming out either so I am gonna miss the birth. Plus the fact I am leaving them behind as well. Not long now though so better carry on packing !!

Good as Gone

No , not us yet. The Bracelet and earrings I made yesterday have gone already. I made the beads after not having chance to get to the torch for ages I made sure I had a chance to play with the new colours before I packed it all up ready for M Day. After managing to make them up within an hour they were gone by someone popping in for a cuppa and seeing them on the side.

So trans grey & fossil glass colours used. A very nice autumn combo ready to be put together again.

This set was made a while ago and has been collecting dust as I have not had chance to take pics before now.

Autumn Leaves

I wanted to make something to cheer myself up , so with yesterdays oranges in mind I made a simple bracelet as I find that goes with most things you wear. And this is what I put together with the beads.

These remind me of the colours that leaves turn as they are dying . Beautiful shades of browns, reds, golden , and orange. Yes I did make something today to cheer myself up.

A Productive Day

After my thoughts and decision on what Lampwork road I am going to following I made this lot. It is still a bit tame but I had no plan of what I was making I just went with the flow and decided on colours with every bead I was making. Whatever I fancied having a go at. This is what came out of the kiln. I did see some of the shades of Orange I used have either come out pinkie or red !!!!!!
